The LCMS launched an education and awareness initiative called “Religious Liberty: Free to be Faithful” in September 2012 to protect American citizens’ freedom of religion, to maintain the rights afforded in the Constitution for future generations, and to respond to increasing intrusions by government in the realm of the church. The campaign’s main goal is to educate and move LCMS rostered members and laity to take informed action to protect religious freedom and all the cultural issues that pertain to it: the definition of marriage, the work of social service organizations, confessing the faith in the public square, aspects of the Health and Human Services mandate and the like:
