Our text for Sunday’s message comes from Matthew 16, beginning with the purpose of Jesus’ life being revealed for the first time to his disciples.Peter reacts with a harsh rebuke, thinking that is not going to happen to Jesus. Jesus realizes this to be a hindrance to the Gospel, namely his death, so Jesus resists the temptation by saying, “Get behind me Satan”What hindrances do we put to the Gospel? What thoughts or temptations do we succumb to that find us trying to prioritize our lives conforming the world instead of Jesus and the cross? Only by dying will we ever enjoy the full Gospel message of living. First we die so that we may live…forever. There is no other way but to follow Jesus, pick up our crosses and die.
